Ideally situated in the heart of 1,800ha of secondary rainforest, our Samboja Lodge is a beautifully designed and sustainable lodge, decorated with traditional artisanal handicraft produced by local and Dayak communities around the area.
Each room has its own en-suite bathroom and access to the balcony with an incredible view of the lush rainforest that surrounds the lodge. There are communal deck areas, with one high above the canopy from which you can enjoy the solitude, peace and sound of the forest. Standard rate is based on twin occupancy, however upgrades to Queen or King Suite are available and strongly recommended.
The East Kalimantan Orangutan Reintroduction Program at Samboja Lestari was the first orangutan reintroduction program established by the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation in 1991..The work the foundation does at Samboja Lestari includes orangutan rescue, translocation of orangutans from areas of conflict to areas of secure and protected habitat, the provision of welfare and healthcare, rehabilitation, reintroduction and forest restoration activities.
In addition to orangutan rehabilitation and reintroduction, we manage sun bear sanctuary, with around 50 sun bears currently under in our care. Conservation of habitat and wildlife can only be achieved by working together with local communities and other stakeholders, hence in all areas of our work we engage with local communities and schools on community development activities and outreach conservation education.

We are closely following the advice of the UK Government in relation to Coronavirus. If the BOS retreat falls at a time when Indonesia has decided to close its borders / has isolation measures in place and the UK Government advises against travel to Indonesia, then the retreat will not go ahead.
There is much uncertainty as to how the situation will unfold so we plan to take each day as it comes and stay in close communication with all those who have booked with us. We will inform you if the retreat is going ahead in advance.
Your patience and support of the BOS community is much appreciated at this time. It is a time of great uncertainty for all and we will do all we can to keep our retreat a safe space.
Food and dietary requirements
The price for your accommodations also includes all 3 meals per day (buffet style, not including any snacks or alcohol). Please note that while we can cater for different diets, we would like to be informed about your dietary requirements/allergies in advance.
Considering that the retreat takes place within a rainforest, the weather can naturally be unpredictable. Please note that we may be prevented from doing some of the activities if this is the case. Replacement activities will be offered during these times.
The airport shuttle is only included on the day the retreat begins and ends. An extra fee will be added if you arrive or depart on alternative days.
Information coming soon.
